HBC's November meeting, featuring Elizabeth Vierling: "Cruising the Arctic for Birds and Bears"

  • November 12, 2024
  • 7:15 PM - 9:30 PM
  • Wesley United Methodist Church

The Svalbard archipelago - Where is it? And who lives there? Professor Elizabeth Vierling went there and found out: Birds, bears, walruses, arctic plants and glaciers. Join her for a photographic tour of Svalbard's terrain, fauna, and flora.

Dr. Vierling is a semi-retired UMass professor of biochemistry and molecular biology who has spent her whole career investigating how plants respond to the environment at the molecular and cellular level. Her lab website: https://sites.biochem.umass.edu/vierlinglab/  She is a forever beginning birder who loves to watch a chickadee as much as seeing a species for the first time.
