EDUCATION WORKSHOPS

In addition to the programs presented at the monthly meetings, you can also benefit from the various workshops covering a wide range of birding related topics. Want to know about the habits of owls? How to use eBird? Explore the birds of India? We have you covered.

Do-it-Yourself (DIY)"Field Trip" Workshops: Each month an area is chosen, and a leader describes the location and five target species for that area. Anyone who wishes to participate has a month to visit the area on their own, record the species they see, and report back at the Zoom event the following month. We usually meet the first Monday of every month, 7-8 pm.

The Field Trip and Education Committees will be presenting a Field Trip Leader Workshop on Tuesday, June 18, 7-8:30 pm. Bill Randolph will host this online workshop on Zoom.

Who should attend: Anyone interested in leading a HBC bird walk (even if you have led a trip in the past)

Purpose: We will share and learn different strategies that can be implemented when you volunteer as a field trip leader for HBC. The training will supply some helpful strategies and build consistency in our messaging throughout all HBC field trips for all current leaders, and will serve as an introduction to anyone considering leading or co-leading a trip for the first time.

Content: We will break down the different parts of leading a group, including:
 - Pre-planning process: What you need before you meet your group.
 - Group meeting and introductions: Sharing pertinent information about HBC's core mission, setting expectations for the group and incorporating your style as a leader, safety/logistics.
 - During the trip: Strategies and content that can be shared during the trip.
 - Closure: Wrapping up with your group.

PLEASE REGISTER --- GO TO THE RIGHT SIDE BAR ON THIS PAGE AND CLICK ON THE LINK FOR THE WORKSHOP.  YOU WILL SEE A BUTTON FOR REGISTRATION.

Many of these workshops are organized by the Education Committee.
