In addition to the programs presented at the monthly meetings, you can also benefit from the various workshops covering a wide range of birding related topics. Want to know about the habits of owls? How to use eBird? Explore the birds of India? We have you covered. Announcement (September 4th, 2026): The Education Committee is still looking for new committee members to help promote and organize education workshops. You do not have to be an expert birder to be on the committee. The committee meets once a month for an hour to plan and organize upcoming scheduled workshops. If you are looking to get involved in the HBC activities, and have some fun, this is a great way to participate! UPCOMING WORKSHOPS October: Virtual Training – Introduction to Bird Track & Sign Date: Thursday, October 1st at 7pm EST Join us for a Zoom virtual training session as we take a closer look at bird track and sign. Expect a presentation of approximately 45 minutes followed by 15 minutes of Q&A. A companion Field Trip program will take place Saturday, October 3rd, 2026, 9:00am – 12:00pm at the Quabbin Reservoir. Registration is now open on the website under field trips or by clicking HERE. Join us as we look at the mysteries birds leave and the stories they tell. This is meant to be a primer for the field session, so the focus will be on defining bird track and sign and where to look for it. Understanding what our avian friends leave behind teaches us much about their behaviors, habitats, and plumage. Discussions will focus on bird track categories, nests & eggs, feathers, and bird feeding sign. Questions? Email education@hampshirebirdclub.org Register below! Introduction to Bird Track & Sign - Virtual Training Bird Track & Sign at the Quabbin Reservoir Date: Saturday, October 3rd from 9am-12pm Join Bryan DiFabio for an exploration of the Quabbin Reservoir and all the ecosystems it supports; mixed forests, wetlands, power line right-of ways, and sandy/muddy beaches. Regardless of gate choice, the walk will take place on wide walking paths and full beach access at a rather slow pace. There may be areas we explore that have mud. Wearing proper waterproof boots or even muck boots is recommended. There may be detours taken for a closer look at sign as it is discovered. In some cases, uncovered sign may be passed around the group, but in others it must be left undisturbed. Track and sign may present itself in some unexpected scenarios. Though it may be more likely that bird tracks will be found on the beach, they are not completely excluded from footpaths. The focus of the entire walk will be to look for bird tracks, nests and eggs, feathers, and feeding sign. A discussion will take place as these bird clues are discovered to determine who, why, what, and how. The chosen location will have ample dirt lot parking, but no restroom. Questions?
